Well, the holidays are upon us. And before you get out on the highway for that long-haul trip, there are a few things you might want to take care of. Here are a few tips on how to handle your car before you go (followed by a link to some of our best car wash coupons).
Get The Car Detailed: If you’re going on a long trip, you’re going to be spending hours (and in some case days) in your vehicle. You don’t really need to take your previous messes with you back to Grandma’s house, and there’s no better way to start your trip than with a clean vehicle. It will make you feel fresher the morning of the drive, and it just feels better putting your suitcases and travel bags in a clean, orderly vehicle.
Get Your Car Washed: Getting your car washed is a good idea for two reasons. First of all, it just looks better every time you get out to fill up for gas…you won’t be thinking “I really need to get that car washed” every time you see it. Second, a dirty car actually creates more drag on a car and reduces your gas mileage (and that’s not just hype…ask Mythbusters!)
Check Your Tires: You don’t want to get halfway across Kansas and notice that one of them is considerably lower than the rest. The best bet would be to take them in for a rotation so that they can get checked out by a professional. And if it’s time for new tires, there’s no better time than when you’re heading out on the highway.
Windshield Wiper Fluid: Make sure you have enough. Windshield wiper fluid can be a lifesaver if you’re passed by a semi truck and he splashes dirty snow spray on your windshield. It’s also good for if Grandma lives down a dirt or gravel road.
Get The Car Detailed (Again): If you’ve spent days in the car traveling to Ohio or Washington, you’ll probably be breakfasting, snacking, lunching, and supping in it. Maybe the kids dropped crayons that won’t be found until they melt in the summer, maybe they stuffed Pop Tart crust between the cushions. Either way, there aren’t many times that the inside of your car looks worse than after a vacation.
Take care of your car and it will take care of you. Happy Holidays, everyone! (oh, and check out our car wash coupons right here.)
